Geothermal Heating and Cooling in the Okanagan

Complete geothermal systems for homes, businesses and construction projects: loop connection, heat pump installation, controls and ongoing service.

Technical overview

How a Geothermal System Works

Below the frost line the ground holds a steady temperature through the year. A buried loop circulates fluid through that stable ground, and a geothermal heat pump inside the building moves heat in or out of the loop. In winter the system draws heat from the ground and delivers it indoors. In summer it reverses, moving heat from the building back into the ground.

Because the heat is moved rather than created, the parts have to be matched carefully. The loop has to be sized to the building load, the heat pump to the loop, the distribution system to the output temperature, and the electrical supply to the equipment. Get one of those wrong and the system runs, but not the way it was intended to.

Our scope covers the mechanical and electrical side of a geothermal project: loop connection at the building, heat pump set and piping, manifolds, circulators, buffer tanks, distribution and controls, and the electrical supply the equipment needs. We also service and replace geothermal systems that were installed years ago by others.

What we do

Geothermal Services We Provide

Geothermal installation

Complete installation of geothermal heating and cooling systems, coordinated with the loop field, the mechanical room and the electrical work.

Geothermal replacement

Replacement of geothermal heat pumps and mechanical equipment when existing units reach the end of their service life.

Service and diagnostics

Testing, repair and ongoing service for geothermal equipment already installed in Okanagan homes and buildings.

Loop and manifold work

Loop connection at the building, manifolds, flow centres, purging and flushing, and pressure testing of the circulating loop.

Distribution upgrades

Buffer tanks, circulators, in-floor loops, air handlers and zoning that let an existing system deliver what it is capable of.

Controls and integration

Thermostats, staging, back-up heat integration and the control wiring that ties the geothermal equipment to the rest of the building.

  • Ongoing service and repair

Where geothermal fits

  • New homes with land or drilling access
  • Major renovations replacing an aging system
  • Commercial buildings with larger loop fields
  • Multi-unit and mixed use developments
  • Properties already on a ground loop
  • Buildings pairing radiant and forced air

How the work runs

From First Call to Commissioning

  1. 01

    Site and load review

We look at the building, the heating and cooling load and the available land or drilling access before saying what is realistic.

  2. 02

    System design

Heat pump, loop connection, distribution and electrical requirements are matched to the building as one system.

  3. 03

    Installation

Our crews handle the mechanical piping, equipment set, controls and electrical connection, coordinated with the loop field work.

  4. 04

    Commissioning

The loop is purged and pressure tested, flow is verified, and the system is started and adjusted under its controls.

Questions

Geothermal Questions We Hear

Not seeing your question? Call 250-862-9063 and talk it through with someone who does the work.

A geothermal system moves heat between the ground and your building using a buried loop and a heat pump. In winter it draws heat from the ground, and in summer it moves heat back into it.
