Technical overview

How We Approach an HVAC System

An HVAC system is a set of matched parts, not a single appliance. Heating capacity, cooling capacity, airflow, duct static pressure, venting and controls all have to agree with each other before a system runs the way it was intended to. When one of those is wrong, the symptoms show up somewhere else: rooms that never reach temperature, equipment that short cycles, noise at the registers, or a unit that fails early.

On a service call our technicians test the system rather than swap parts. That means checking gas pressure and combustion on a furnace, superheat and subcooling on an air conditioner or heat pump, temperature rise across the heat exchanger, static pressure across the duct system, and the safety and limit controls that shut equipment down. The findings decide the repair.

On a replacement we size the equipment to the building. Duct capacity, existing venting, electrical supply and the layout of the home or building are reviewed before equipment is selected, and our sheet metal shop fabricates the transitions and ductwork the new equipment needs. Cooling and heat pump work is carried out by refrigeration technicians, and gas fired equipment by certified gas fitters.

How the work runs

From First Call to Commissioning

  1. 01

    Assessment

We look at the equipment, the ductwork, the venting and the building before recommending anything, so the scope reflects what is actually there.

  2. 02

    Testing and diagnosis

Measurements decide the repair. We explain what failed and why in plain language, along with the options and the cost.

  3. 03

    Installation

Our own installers, gas fitters and sheet metal workers carry out the work, including the duct and venting changes new equipment needs.

  4. 04

    Commissioning

The system is started, measured and adjusted, and we walk you through the controls and filter service before we leave.

Questions

HVAC Questions We Hear

Not seeing your question? Call 250-862-9063 and talk it through with someone who does the work.

It depends on the failed component, the age of the equipment and the condition of the heat exchanger. We give you the repair cost and the replacement option together so you can compare them, rather than pushing one over the other.
