Technical overview

Plumbing Work, From Fixture to Mechanical Room

Plumbing covers everything from a dripping supply line to the piping and equipment that serves an entire building. The same principles apply at both ends: correct pipe sizing for the fixture load, isolation where it is needed, protection against backflow and freezing, venting that lets drains run properly, and connections made to code with materials suited to the water in this valley.

Water heating is where most homes feel the difference. A tank has a recovery rate and a standby loss, while a tankless unit has a flow rate at a given temperature rise, a gas supply requirement and a venting requirement. Choosing between them is a sizing exercise based on how many fixtures run at once, not a preference, and an undersized gas line is the most common reason a tankless installation disappoints.

Hydronic heating brings plumbing and heating together. In-floor loops, manifolds, circulators, mixing valves, zoning and boiler controls have to be designed as one system, laid out before the pour on new work, and commissioned with the heat source. Our plumbers and hydronic specialists work alongside our HVAC crews, so the boiler, the loops and the controls are handled by the same company.

Lines are pressure checked and drains verified, the work area is cleaned, and we show you the isolation points before we leave.

Questions

Plumbing Questions We Hear

Not seeing your question? Call 250-862-9063 and talk it through with someone who does the work.

Tankless units heat water as it flows, so the deciding factor is how many fixtures you run at once and the temperature rise required. The gas supply and venting also have to support the unit, which is often the real cost difference on a retrofit.
